Tips

The count is by code points, the same as fanout uses before publishing. X's own counter treats URLs as 23 characters and some characters as two, so it can differ. Details are in the character limits guide.

Posting to X with other networks

Schedule posts to X from the same draft you use for every other network. fanout keeps the X version short and punchy, lets you attach images or video, and publishes at the time you pick. Replies to your posts land in the comments inbox, and analytics show impressions and engagement per post, all included on every plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the X character limit?

fanout enforces 280 characters per X post, counted as Unicode code points. A post can carry up to 4 images.

Do emojis count toward the X limit?

Yes. A simple emoji is one code point, so it counts as one here. Emoji built from several parts (skin tones, flags, family emoji) are several code points and count as several. X's own counter weights many emoji and CJK characters as two, so its number can be higher than this one.

What happens if my X post is too long?

fanout splits the text into a reply thread (up to 10 posts), breaking at paragraphs, lines, sentences or words, and publishes it as a chain. Posting by hand, you need to cut it yourself; the thread splitter does this for you.

Is this the same count X uses?

It is the count fanout uses when it checks a post, based on X's documented limit as of 2026-10-25. Networks change limits and count some characters differently, so treat a post within a few characters of the cap as unconfirmed until X accepts it.
