Paste a post and see it against the limits of all 15 networks fanout publishes to: characters used, characters left, the image cap, whether the network needs media, and how many posts it would become as a thread.

The count is the number of Unicode code points, Array.from(text).length in JavaScript. That is exactly how fanout counts a post before it publishes, and the caps are the ones fanout enforces. They match each network's documented limits as of 2026-10-25; see the character limits guide for the details and caveats.
A network can count differently than this page does. X weights URLs as 23 characters and counts some characters (CJK, many emoji) as two, so X's own counter can show a different number for the same text. Treat the number here as fanout's, and check close calls in the network itself.
| Network | Character cap | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| X (Twitter) | 280 | X character counter |

| YouTube | 5,000 | YouTube character counter |

It counts Unicode code points, the same way fanout counts when it checks a post before publishing. An emoji or a letter with a combining accent can be more than one code point, and a plain letter is always one.
X applies its own weighting: every URL counts as 23 characters, and some characters, such as CJK text and many emoji, count as two. X's own counter is the final word for X. The cap shown here is the 280 limit fanout enforces, counted by code points.
On X, Bluesky and Threads, fanout splits long text into a reply thread of up to 10 posts. On other networks the post is flagged as too long and you shorten it or write a shorter version for that network.
